The New York Islanders remain known as one of the best dynasties of all-time in the early 1980's, but as of right now they are a little down. I want to look at the positive though, so here are some of the greatest players to ever play for the team from Long Island.

Mike Bossy - 573 career goals and 553 assists? No, that isn't a typo. One of the best snipers in NHL history.

Bob Bourne - One of the fastest skaters ever was also a competent goal scorer and role player during the dynasty years.

Patrick Flatley - A great, hard-nosed captain who did all the dirty things for the Islanders in the late 1980s.

Clark Gillies - No one dared to mess with this menace on the ice. What made his great was his great two way play, leadership and hard work (on his skill and in his fights).

Butch Goring - Showed up at the trading deadline in 1980, and promptly won four titles with the team. One of the most fundamentally sound and hardworking players of his time.

Gary Howatt - Suffered from the short/tough guy syndrome, but gave the team respect in the early years.

Denis Potvin - One of the best defensemen in NHL history, this guy anchored the dynasty of the Islandesrs.

Billy Smith - There have been so many great goaltenders in the NHL, but if you need a clutch performance in the playoffs, Battlin' Billy might be your guy.

Bryan Trottier - Played so well with Mike Bossy, they were referred to as "bread and butter."

Pierre Turgeon - A very gifted player who suffered a career-setback after being thrown into the boards by Dale Hunter.

So there are my ten to remember. It's too hard to order them, and I'm sure most will think I've left off some players. We can all agree though that the Islanders had a nice share of great players.

I really wish the Islanders were better at this time, but the good news is I found you can get cheap New York Islander tickets at FanRates. Catch a game this year if you can.
