If you live in an apartment, you will have many advantages, that a homeowner would not. As a renter, you will not have common responsibilities that include mowing the lawn, painting the house, or any maintenance issues. Although it may seem that you don't have any other responsibilities other than making sure your rent is paid on time, you actually have a few rules you must abide by. This is called landlord-tenant law, and you must abide by certain rules.
*You must keep your apartment home clean, sanitary, and safe.Renters must dispose of their trash properly in their unit. The landlord/management company is responsible for the exterior. If you don't keep your apartment home free of trash, you could be in jeopardy of losing the entire security deposit.
*Appliances including ovens, stoves, washer and dryers, etc, must be kept in good working order. You won't be responsible for repairing them if they break. But you must contact the management company so they can be repaired.
*This goes for the electrical and plumbing fixtures too. Don't damage them on purpose and use them accordingly. If you cause damage that was done purposely, you may be responsible for the repairs. Treat the items as though they are your own.
*Don't cause undue damage or harm to the apartment home. You also will be responsible for any damage caused by yourself and visitors you may have over.
*You cannot disturb the other tenants who live in the apartment building. The property has a responsibility to keep the comfort of other tenants at a certain level. This means no crazy late night parties or excessive noise.
*Don't allow friends or family to stay with you beyond a reasonable amount of time. The exact number of days should be included in your contract. You must notify the community if you plan on having them for an extended period of time.
Contact your property manager for further responsibility's you may have.
