Before even starting your search engine optimization campaign you can drastically improve your rankings by registering your domain for as long as possible. Google and other search engine giants automatically assume your site is legitimate if it is registered for more than one year. Spam sites tend to only register for the minimum length of time so Google will be more inclined to believe your site has some value if your site is registered for a longer amount of time.

Submitting your sites to search engines can be a lengthy grueling project. Some times it can take months for this method to work. An easier more effective way of getting listed involves good content and solid linking. If your sites content is unique and not just recycled junk search engines will pick you up much quicker. On the web content really is king and you will find this out if you can write a few online articles containing unique content. In addition to good content a few solid links will help you get listed fairly quickly.

Whatever you do, don't submit your site to link building scams and ad blasting sites. This could get your site blacklisted because it is against most search engines rules. Stick to authentic link building tools and campaigns. If your going to pay someone to do this for you make sure they aren't using any of these techniques.

Make sure you have your theme and synonymous terms in your h1 tags, titles, description and on page content. Also make sure you don't use the same keywords more than 1-3% of the time on your pages. You can use synonymous terms so if your header tag is cat health then the relevant keywords on your page can be feline health, cat insurance, cat health care because their all similar to your main topic.

Submit your site to Yahoo directory, DMoz, STPT, Best of the web and theme based directories.

Your sites internal linking should be similar to Wikipedia. Use your internal linking to the fullest and make sure you mix up your anchor text in your links. Use synonymous terms and theme related terms in your anchor text.

Use social bookmarking sites. Go sign up at onlywire.com and then start bookmarking your products, articles on your site and EzineArticles, categories. Don't spam them though and make sure your providing something of use.

If you are using images make sure the files have the names of the image in the file this will help with image optimization. In addition, have related content in your tags of your images and surrounding text.

EzineArticles has a section on each article in every category that is called "Most published" and "Most viewed" articles. Get yours to be either one and every article that is written in your category will link to your article. Then your article is gaining all of that link juice which will pass them through the links in your resource box giving you more juice to your site.

Use a unique template. Your sites Content to your code ratio should be at least 80% unique.

Generate something useful that people would like to link to. Maybe great info, nice tool etc. This will help your link building campaigns.
