A Guide to Gold Coach BeachesArticle Word Count: 400 [View Summary] Comments (0) |
It doesn't even require reiteration: Gold Coach has some of the best beaches in Australia. But that alone doesn't mean you shouldn't be more critical when choosing a beach destination in the city. After all, beaches aren't made equally; some are better than others. Also, some beaches are more appropriate for some activities while not recommended for other activities.
For instance, there are beaches in Gold Coast that are more appropriate for surfing. The city is a popular surfing destination in Australia, thanks to the waves and the general atmosphere in these areas. Burleigh Heads has got to be one of the best surfing beaches in Gold Coast, made all the more fantastic by its proximity to the amazing Burleigh National Park. However, many say that Snapper Rocks is easily the best surfing beach not just in the country; it is among the best beaches in the world as well (it is the venue of many annual surfing events such as the Quiksilver Pro).
For swimming, Burleigh Heads can be great too, during milder days, but Currumbin, Rainbow Bay, and Sat at the Kingcliff are among the best swimming beaches in Gold Coast. Rainbow Bay is a good choice in particular because it is sheltered. The ine in Hastings Point, meanwhile are great for family travelers.
Nonetheless, there are certain beaches in the city that are the most family-friendly, and these beaches are incidentally the city's most popular as well. For instance, despite the name, Surfers Paradise isn't just a surfing beach; it is also a great all around beach which can be ideal for both swimming and other water-based activities (not limited to surfing). Other noteworthy beaches include Main Beach (thanks to the friendly vibe), Broadbeach, Miami, and Coolangatta (thanks to the amenities and the nearby attractions). The Spit, in particular, is a good destination because of this. North Stradbroke Island may be more ideal for water activities than general family fun, but it is heavily patrolled by Queensland lifesavers.
Lastly, Gold Coast also offers some beaches for those not really willing to share the space with hundreds of people. Secluded, less crowded beaches include The Spit on Main Beach, Bilinga, Miami, and Tallebudgera. For those looking for still water beaches, the Evandale swimming lagoon on Surfers Paradise, the Currumbin rock pools on Currumbin Valley, and the Tallebudgera Creek on Tallebudgera are some places worthy to be checked out.
