A-Frame Greenhouse Plans - Know Your Options
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Building a homemade greenhouse is a practical, effective way to grow all kinds of plants at any time of the year. The simplest way to build is by using some quality a-frame greenhouse plans. Naturally, there are many ways to obtain such plans. This article outlines your options, and directs you to the next step in this great DIY project.

Bookstores, Libraries, And The Internet

You will most likely be able to find high quality construction schematics for an a-frame greenhouse in your local bookstore. Alternatively, you could search the "DIY" section of the library. If you're feeling in a hi-tech mood, you might even like to download plans from the internet. Digital plans are generally of a high standard, and are instantly available 24/7.

Other Greenhouse Designs

Though you may have your heart set on an a-frame greenhouse, there are many other simple, even more practical options. Below is a description of 2 alternative designs:

1) The Modular Hotbed - This design lays low, just like the a-frame design. However, it is a bit wider, and has 2 opening doors. This makes it much easier to access your plants. It also provides a lot more usable space.

2) The Grow Rack - This style of greenhouse is quite different from the a-frame, but can be a better option for some people. It stands up much like a refrigerator, and has multiple shelves. Again, building this kind of greenhouse will ensure easy access and practical use of inside space.

Picking The Best Materials

Wood is by far the best material with which to build a greenhouse. The best species is generally treated pine because of it's resistance to rot. However, if you want to take the organic route, cedar is a naturally rot resistant lumber that is not too expensive.

As far as passive solar panel materials go, polyethylene plastic is very popular. Again, if you want to keep your greenhouse organic, there are quite a few selections of cloth that work well.
