A Few Ways to Prevent Migraines

The field of neurology deals with all sorts of medical problems with the brain, but headaches and migraines are by far the most common neurological symptom. Even Bloomington neurology can't always combat a migraine at full force, but by tweaking a few parts of a person's lifestyle, neurologists can make migraines occur less frequently.

One strategy to combat migraines is to change your sleep habits. Being sleep deprived can increase the occurrence of migraines, and by keeping a consistent sleep pattern, your body will feel altogether better adjusted. Sometimes even getting too much sleep can cause migraines. Keeping a sleep journal is important when experimenting with different sleep schedules.

Our choice of foods, and when we eat those foods, can have an impact on the occurrence of migraines. Not eating enough, eating too much, or not getting the right kinds of food can have an effect. Also, when you choose to eat your meals is important. Just like sleep habits, food habits benefit from being on a consistent schedule.

A common theory regarding the source of migraines is that they are caused by stress, so any stress relieving activity can be beneficial to your neurological health. Meditation and other deep relaxation techniques can help. Exercise has also been shown to help relieve stress.

The bottom line in dealing with chronic migraines is that you need to balance all aspects of your life. This is easier said than done. If you're still struggling with migraines after trying all of these methods, perhaps medication is required, but that is a last resort, because all of these other treatments are free.
