A Cell Phone Finder Finds a Lost Couple

A pair of lost travelers were rescued with a little help from a cell phone finder. Susan and Jeff were driving through the mountains of Utah when they got lost on some back mountain roads on the way to a family friend's house. Jeff kept driving but the roads continued to get worse as they drove on. And then a snow storm threatened to send them off the road.

"I was scared, the roads were almost too narrow to even turn around," said Susan.

Luckily the pair stumbled upon a small home before it was too snowy to see. They pulled partially into the driveway, getting their car stuck in the process.

"All I thought was, 'I hope there is a phone in there,'" said Jeff. He said he thought the cell phones would at least work somewhat in the mountains, but there was no signal anywhere since they left the main road.

They got to the door and knocked. Susan said afterward that she was almost glad no spooky mountain folk answered the door.

Inside the sparsely furnished house, there was a phone. They called collect to Jeff's mother. Unfortunately for them, she was out and the call went to voicemail. Then a gust of wind took down a nearby tree and the telephone lines.

When Jeff's mother checked her answering machine there was a message asking if she would like to accept a call from a strange phone number and her son saying "Mom, pick up, we're lost in Utah, we need help."

Needless to say, it wasn't what Jeff's mother wanted to hear. She tried calling the number back, but there was no connection. She tried calling the local police department she found on Google, but their lines seemed to be down too.

So, she kept Googling and found an online cell phone finder. She did a reverse lookup of the number and found that it was registered to a home in the Utah mountains not even five miles from the family friend's house. She knew he had a satellite phone for emergencies such as this, so she called up and gave him the address. He called back an hour later from the warm cab of his big truck along with Jeff and Susan.

There isn't any cell phone directory so anyone looking to find a cell phone number is just about out of luck with traditional sources. But thousands of people are finding cell phone numbers online.
