Got dirty windows? No, not just dust, dirt, or fingerprints, I am talking about paint, food bits, bird splay, bug matter, and whatever else your 3 year old might smash onto your windows.
Most homeowners have tried, to no avail, cleaning their extremely dirty windows with a paper towel and grocery store window solutions. Here is the efficient, safe, way to clean those hard to sparkle windows:
Necessary equipment:
- Small bucket
- 1 SUPER FINE (#0000) Steel or bronze wool pad
- concentrated dish soap
- ammonia
- 12" squeegee
- Clean, dry, lint free micro fiber towel
Procedure:
- Mix 1 tablespoons dish soap, 2 ounces ammonia, and 1 gallon of water in small bucket.
- Submerge wool pad in cleaning solution and apply to soiled window.
- Vigorously scrub entire glass surface. Focus majority of effort on grimiest areas.
- Squeegee window clean. If not completely satisfied with appearance of glass, repeat steps 3 and 4.
- Wipe edges of window with clean towel.
- Restrain children from touching glass!
- Enjoy, but be prepared to do it again soon!
Super Fine (#0000) steel wool can be purchased at any local hardware store. Steel wool should be inspected for rust prior to use. Wet steel wool should be discarded 2-3 hours after exposure to moisture.
Super Fine (#0000) bronze wool was originally created for use in the marine industry because of its resistance to rust. Bronze wool stays intact longer than steel wool. Bronze wool is fast becoming an insiders secret in the professional window cleaning world. If thoroughly dried, bronze wool can be reused time after time.
