For many of us, possessions and thoughts can clutter up our lives and can be extremely difficult to get rid of. This can involve difficult decisions as many people are unwilling to part with these. By following 5 steps you can stop clutter for good:

  • Firstly, find the cause of the clutter. It is essential to realise whether it is you who buys the clutter or whether it tends to be from unwanted gifts due to family and friends. Alternatively, you may feel that your mind is full of ideas or unfinished tasks which must be completed.
  • If you realise it is you that accumulates clutter you may wish to look into whether you have a compulsive shopping addiction. This is seen as a serious matter and should be checked by a doctor if you feel you may be a sufferer.
  • Methods such as throwing away two items before you buy one could be used if you feel you cannot help buying clutter. Also, questioning whether the item you want is of great importance to you can help you when deciding if you are in adequate need fi the item in order to buy it.
  • If friends and family keep buying you unwanted gifts and you are too polite to throw them away, why not ask for donations to charity instead of gifts on special occasions in an attempt to stop clutter.
  • As clutter problems can also lie within the mind in the form of creative ideas and information try interpreting these through drawing or writing and placing them in a file. However, if the problem of clutter lies in unfinished tasks, make an effort to write these down and finish a certain amount of these daily to get them out of your mind.
