5 Tips For Giving Great Back Massages

Everyone enjoys a great back massage but not everybody can afford to visit the massage therapist when their back hurts. While an expert is the best choice for removing any chronic pain, you or your partner can learn how to give quite a decent massage when you can't get to your therapist.

Here are five tips for giving great back massages:

Step 1: Pick your lotion or oil, you may have to try a few to find one that you truly like. Aromatherapy oils can be a nice added touch for the back rub, just be sure to bring the oil to body temperature before applying it to skin.

Step 2: Apply the oil or lotion by adding just a few lines of oil or lotion. You do not want to get carried away here. Too much and you'll have your partner soaked and your hands will be slipping everywhere. Always start with less than what you think you will need and add more from there.

Step 3: Start your back massage with long, slow strokes, nothing to hard right away. Start at the base of the back and work up to the neck and then back down, taking several minutes with each passing. Starting slow and gradual helps the person relax their muscles more.

Step 4: Now's the time to target any problem areas. Ask which areas they are experiencing pain in the most and focus on those. You may have also found some muscle knots when you were massaging them, so you can focus more on those areas now as well.

Step 5: Be sure you pay attention to the person you're massaging. Tell them you expect their feedback. Ask how it felt and which things they liked the best. Don't wait until the end of the massage to ask for feedback, you should be an ongoing thing during her session. This way you can tailor made an experience right for them.

A great back massage must have correct pre and post massage focus if you really want your partner being impressed. Stylistically, start carefully using your finger tips and then go on to deeper, harder kneading using your thumbs. Finish the massage treatment with soft fingertip rubs.
