Are you an experienced painter?
If you're not, don't worry about it - neither am I and I have successfully repainted the interior of my home several times so you definitely don't have to be an expert from the get go!
In fact, I would say that interior painting is one of the best starter home improvement projects I can think of! It's inexpensive to get started and it doesn't have the highest level of difficulty as far as home improvement projects are concerned.
Most people who experience problems when painting the interior of their home do so for 5 simple reasons.
In other words if you manage to get these 5 things right it is almost guaranteed that you will be able to finish your interior wall paining project successfully.
Basically the 5 things you need to remember can be summed up in the following:
- Enough preparation
- The right preparation
- The right treatment of the paint
- The right painting technique
- Using the right tools
First of all it's important that you clean the surface you are about to paint properly. Make sure to fill in any cracks prior to painting!
When you do fill in the cracks don't put too much Spackle in the cracks, what will look just as bad as not putting anything it at all!
It is also very important to remember to stir the paint frequently and remove any foreign objects from it.
Make sure you get the right tools for the job!
You probably already know that you need a roller. Don't be cheap when buying one though. Make sure the quality is good and be sure to get an extension pole while you're at it!
So is it possible for people like us with zero experience to paint interior walls in our homes?
I certainly is! Like every other other home improvement project interior wall painting just requires a bit of planning.
I do, however, encourage you to consider other interior decoration concerns before starting your painting project.
