Now I'm sure that you'll agree with me that no-one can be totally happy every single minute of every single day, but it does seem to me that there are some people in the world who are much happier much more of the time.
Do they perhaps know something that we don't?
Not necessarily, usually they are simply applying certain habits in their life that afford them more opportunity to be happier on a more consistent basis. Today I would like to share with you 5 of those habits that would ultimately bring more joy into your life as well.
1. Live In The Present Moment. Most people's unhappiness stems either from them continuously regretting yesterday or endlessly worrying about tomorrow. All that you have, though, is now, today. So forget about yesterday's mistakes or tomorrow's fears and focus on being fully present today. Enjoy your life right here and now.
2. Trust Your Instincts. Many times we get so caught up in planning, analyzing, comparing, mulling things over, doing research and asking others for opinions, that taking action in any direction becomes burdensome or frustrating. Sometimes you simply have to follow your gut and take action based on your first instinct. Things usually work out all right in the end, with much less stress.
3. Have A Positive Outlook. Expect the best, hope for success and believe that everything will come together in the end. Now, I'm not saying that you should be all optimistic when the circumstance does not call for it, but I am saying that when you approach any situation with a positive expectation, it allows you to make much clearer decisions and take more definite action.
4. Get Enough Rest. Our bodies need rest to recuperate and to recharge. When we do not get enough rest, it impacts our thinking and our actions. We begin feeling miserable and less inclined to put in our best effort. When we do get enough rest, though, there is a spring in our step, a song in our voice and an all around can-do attitude. Energized, more creative and ready to take on the next challenge. So, watch your sleeping habits, as it has a direct impact on your performance and mood when you are awake.
5. Watch What You Eat. Food that is too salty, too sugary or too oily impacts your body negatively, making you lethargic and sometimes even slower. Research has shown that certain foods actually enhance thinking capacity. Stay away from the junk food and fizzy drinks and rather choose a healthier alternative, your body and mind will thank you for it.
Although there is quite possibly hundreds of more ways to increase your happiness factor, applying these 5 simple steps in your life starting today will most definitely boost how happy you are on a daily basis. So choose one or two or even all five and implement them today. You'll be happy you did.
