5 Reasons to Network on Other Planets

Modern-day Planet Earth seems to be full of the same old same when it comes to business networking; Earthlings who don't seem to keep in touch with contacts. People who talk a lot and listen very little. Persons that don't cultivate relationships. And then there are those poor earthly creatures that fail to give referrals.

It seems like all hope for effective business networking is lost..... at least on our planet! Time to look to the stars and boldly go where no man has gone before. But before you go, here are 5 reasons to network on other planets;

1. Martians give referrals freely.

The average Martian realizes the law of reciprocity. That law that states "What goes around comes around" Even though he/she has their own business to care for and needs new clients and referrals of their own, they will actively seek opportunities to refer likely candidates to their colleagues.

This act is done purely in the spirit of not receiving anything in return. However, they know that through this act, they will by default. We can learn something from our Martian neighbors.

2. Plutonians are well connected.

While it stays pretty darn cold all year round, Plutonians seem to be the most well connected. Could it be because they are constantly out meeting new people and making sure that their well never runs dry. Could it be because they are actively involved in meeting new contacts on a regular basis.

Maybe it's because they know that being consistent in making new introductions will allow them to never run out of options. Plutonians are smart.

3. Venusians work to develop their relationships.

On Venus, they know that the best things come through time. They don't seem to be turbo-power closers. They don't seem to be in such a hurry for productivity that they forget the practical parts of bond building.

They realize that showing genuine interest and learning people's goals and needs, is an intricate part of the process. Take notes while you are on Venus.

4. Mercurians stay in touch with their contacts

As hot as it gets on this little planet, they stay in contact with their network. Whether it's through regular phone calls, e-mail, or postings on online social networks, they don't forget about each other. Therefore, when it comes time for referrals or a new job, they have a wealth of options to choose from. That's hot!

5. Saturn is full of great listeners.

On Saturn, they seem to run rings around their competition. It's probably due to the fact that when their clients, colleagues, or partners speak, they listen way more than they talk.

I guess they realize that while someone is speaking, important information can be gathered and the other person feels that they are being heard. As a result, they are able to communicate more effectively because they seek to understand before being understood. Networking "Loud-mouths" hate to step into the ring with Saturians.

So, to improve the business networking here on Earth, one can either practice the habits and techniques of our planetary pals or visit NASA right away.
