5 Reasons Not to Use Your Denture Cream

While many of us dread having to go down that isle at the grocery store, picking out the right denture cream can be a challenge to say the least. The rows of new brands, the competition between popular brands which should we choose. Now there are 5 more reasons you should be weary when looking for the right denture cream to fit your needs.

Below are 5 reasons to beware of your denture cream:

Reason 1] Zinc Poisoning- High levels of zinc have been found in popular forms of denture cream including fixodent & Super Poligrip. These high levels are believed to be absorbed through the gums during daily use. The more you use the more zinc is absorbed in your body.

Reason 2] Denture creams are not regulated by the FDA. The FDA does not check the levels of the ingredients used in denture creams. When checked some denture creams were found to expose a user to 330 mg of zinc daily. The normal recommended dose of zinc on a daily basis is between 9-11mg.

Reason 3] High levels of Zinc can lead to copper deficiency. High levels of zinc reduce the amount of copper in the body this causes additional health problems including fatigue, cardiovascular disease, reduced thyroid function, and reduced red blood cell function.

Reason 4] Zinc exposure can cause additional problems in diabetic patients such as reduced blood sugar levels, and early development of neuropathy. The high zinc levels can cause irreversible neurological damage.

Reason 5] Some Denture cream manufacturers have been found to be neglectful in alerting the consumers of the severity of the side effects of the denture creams and have been accused of intentional misrepresentation under the deceptive trade practices act.
