3. 2012. Staying on the apocalyptic thread, 2012 is a take on the Mayan calendar prediction that the world will end in that soon-to-arrive date. Will there be any warning? Will certain countries have the means to cope with worldwide devastation? This fantastic film attempts to answer these questions, with a little world-ruling paranoia thrown in for good measure. Take 2012 with a grain of salt, but nonetheless enjoy the showmanship with a 1080p HD viewing on your TV screen.

4. Edge of Darkness. The public's perception of Mel Gibson has shifted from devoted to questionable in recent years, but after some fence-mending and several good films, Gibson is back in star form. Edge of Darkness presents him in a very sympathetic role - that of a bereaved father - but Mel does not sit by idly while his daughter's killers are at large. Heavy on revenge and violence, Edge of Darkness gives Gibson a lot of room to flex his muscles (and his trigger finger).

5. Avatar. Is Avatar the movie of the decade? Filmmakers everywhere are heralding it as the dawn of a new age in cinema, and though it might seem somewhat cartoonish to purists, it ought to be seen before judgment gets passed. A truly stunning HD spectacle is on the menu when take a look at Avatar, a film which is said to have produced a rousing standing ovation from Steven Spielberg himself upon completion.
