In the fast paced arena that is the world today, it is easy for us to crumble under the pressure. The pressure to perform, to keep up with our hectic lifestyles has often made us become pessimistic about ourselves and the world at large, especially when we witness others succeeding while we still struggle our way to the top of the mountain, or even try to stay afloat. We envy the successful, we wonder what they have that we don't, and the answer to that is simply this: Confidence. This article will explore 5 great tips on how you too can become a success story like the ones you've envied all your life.

The first tip that most successful people already know is to stop caring. This does not mean that you need to become a cold and uncaring person, it simply means that you need to stop caring what others think about you. People who lack confidence tend to be absolute worrywarts, always concerned about what others may think of themselves or their actions, when they really should be focusing on what they need to do in order to get some semblance of success in their lives. Worrying and whining about what others think of you is not going to get you any further on the ladder to success, so stop the pity party, be happy in your own skin, and keep on keeping on!

The second trait that successful people share is that they are optimistic. Their state of mind is clear and positive, they have faith in themselves and their own abilities. They know that they can achieve whatever it is that they want to achieve. Every new challenge is not met with thoughts of possible failure; they approach each challenge with the hunger to succeed, the drive to add another achievement to their long list of accomplishments. Most people fail in their endeavours because they allow that small "What If" to grow uncontrollably, and eventually that small bit of negativity becomes their downfall. Be positive, and good things will follow.

The third tip you might want to consider is to assess the kind of company you're keeping. A lot of people unwittingly allow the people around them to breed negativity in them, because they're often hanging around people just wanting them to fail. Choose your close friends and confidants wisely. Remember the point about staying positive? You need to surround yourself with like-minded people, people who may give you honest criticism but know how to be tactful about it. Stay away from people who are constantly putting you down. If you hang around with positive, confident people, then their positivity and confidence will rub off on you given time.

The fourth tip to boosting your confidence is to challenge yourself. Don't be afraid of taking up new challenges and risks. A lot of successful people tend to face their fears in order to get over them, and you should do the same. Once you've gotten over a new challenge, you will feel a sense of accomplishment that is unrivalled in anything that you may have done in your life.

The fifth and final tip is infinitely simple to accomplish. Smile. A good smile can boost your confidence significantly, because it would cause others to smile back at you. A smile breeds positivity, and you would be hard pressed to find anyone who wouldn't smile back if you flash a smile at them. Once you spread the happiness, you will find that you will grow more confident as the people around you start liking you more.
