4th of July

Expert Author Pamela Bussi

In 1776, the leaders of the American Revolution penned during trying times in our country the Declaration of Independence. Men of various ages, lifestyles, religious backgrounds and political opinions sat down and worked together to draft a document to forever be a part of our country.

Fighting to be free was the main topic, freedom from England and taxation by the English. The two main forerunners to the Declaration of Independence were Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin. It was on July 4, 1776 that a final draft was presented to the Continental Congress.

There were difficulties and challenges that each individual was facing, as well as families, and the colonies. There was war and instability through the country. Yet through all this men that could see past themselves and past their era were able to write one of the most influential documents of our countries history.

On July 4 each year, we stop and give thanks to those leaders that paved the road for our nation. We are a diverse nation from sea to shining sea.

The fragile times that the 13 colonies lived through live on today with taxation, the economy, finances, wars and political instability being in the forefront of the news. With oil coming ashore along with hailstorms, winds, tornados and flooding as well as young men and women overseas fighting for our freedom, we too will embrace our country.

This Fourth of July, Independence Day was celebrated in various ways, from honoring those who are fighting for our country and the freedom we so cherish to children that only know the day as sparklers, popping sounds and barbecues.

No matter what part of the country, from Montana to Washington DC there will be celebrations, families coming together, barbecues and fireworks. Along with local events in communities, there are national events as well. Tour de France begins with Tour de Bozeman soon to follow. Wimbledon tennis and the World Cup continues.

This Fourth of July we enjoyed our freedom, and many focused on our country with its trials and tribulations while others embraced our country in sporting events whether national or local.
