4 Things That You Should Not Do When Building Links to Your Website

Most of us understand the importance of back linking and how links can drive traffic to our website by moving the website up the rankings in the search engines. What many of us do not know is that there is a right way and a wrong way to go about this. The wrong way can easily get your website banned and sent into the nether regions of the search index where no one will be able to find your website.

The first piece of advice I want to share with you is to stay away from link farms and programs designed to give your website back links in the thousands and instantly. You see, most of the search engines like websites to build links naturally and over the course of time. If they see that you all of the sudden and right out of the gates have thousands of back links from only a few sources, you might not enjoy the results you are going to see a few months down the road. If you are going to pay someone to help you with links, make sure they do it at a steady pace.

There are blog networks on the internet that have a list of blogs and participate in sharing links with each other. Some of these networks are OK, others disappear as quickly as they are put up. If the blog network you are participating in does not do a good job of maintaining their blogs or participate in spam related activities, the links they provide will be worthless to say the least. And if the only links that you have are from this blog network, you can kiss all of your back links and rankings goodbye.

Third, don't put all your chickens in one basket. In an example like the one above, all of your sites could easily get de-indexed with no way to get them back to ranking again. Work at spreading your links using several methods and from several different IP addresses.

The last thing that you should not do when building links back to your website is to try and stay away from link trading programs that involve two way links. It is ok to have a few shared links here and there, but one way links are the best form of link you can get and will have the biggest impact on the rankings of your websites.
