3 Ways Continued Learning Helps My Time Management Plan

Expert Author Mary Segers

I Don't Think Anyone Would Dispute

That if you want to stay mentally sharp throughout your life you need to continue learning. A big part of learning for me is reading. It has also proven to be of immense help with my time management plan.

In this article I'm going to share with you 3 ways continued learning helps my time management plan. I'm sure with just a little bit of imagination you can figure out how it may be just as helpful...maybe even more so...in your own life.

Makes Me a Smarter Person - What I learn can not only make me smarter, but can positively impact my time management. For instance, a few years back I decided I really love a clean house but I didn't like how much time I was spending on achieving that goal. I decided I wanted to learn speed cleaning techniques. So, I bought a couple of books have worked on implementing the techniques and the time saved has been immense.

I may learn a technique for communicating with my teenager that saves me time in the long run. (Who is not always searching for something like that?)

Reduce Stress - I feel absolutely exhilarated whenever I learn something new, which I do with every book I read. Alternately, I may just be looking for reinforcement for something I already know.

Books are not the only way I learn. I may be able to learn something more easily from a DVD or it may be something that requires more hands-on training. For instance, taekwondo, photography, belly dancing, and singing are all things I either have done or am in the process of learning.

But again, even though I have a love of reading, I learned/am learning these things from different modalities. I actually went to classes for a few years for taekwondo and was very good at it. Photography is a hands-on continuous process but I also have books. I took a 6 week belly dancing class, loved it, and bought some DVDs to continue learning. I'm learning singing from a DVD home study course and practicing in Church.

Stress reduction helps my time management because when I allow myself to indulge in my love of learning and my stress is reduced then I can very easily go back to my time management plan and complete the next thing on my list while feeling not only refreshed but actually somewhat exhilarated.

Or, alternately...and more probable...is that the time management plan tells me what I need to get done in order to do what I want to do.

Good for My Overall Health - Take the above list...taekwondo, photography, belly dancing and singing and tell me if you can't just see how those would be good for my overall health which, needless to say, my time management plan is dependent upon.

I don't know about you but the time it takes to sit in a doctor's office could be used for at least 53 other things on my to do list.

This article highlighted what I firmly believe are 3 ways continued learning helps my time management plan.
