Having an opt-in list is a great way to market your thoughts and products to customers. There was a reason they subscribed to your list in the first place. The challenge for you now is to make sure they do not unsubscribe from your list. In this article I cover the 3 things you must never do when emailing your opt-in list.
Keep in mind that there are privacy laws in place now which are there to protect us all. There is nothing worse than getting a lot of unwanted email from someone. Sometimes I myself will receive mail from someone list of which I have no recollection of having subscribed to. If you do start to spam your list you may find you are in trouble with both your ISP and the law.
An opt-in list should avoid most of these issues however as people have agreed subscribe to your list. Anything you send to them is because they have consented to receive it. Normally there is a link at the bottom of each mail you send which gives the subscriber the option of unsubscribing. Occasionally someone else may have signed someone up to a list without them knowing. It does not happen very often, but it is possible. Having the option to unsubscribe protects both you and your customer.
Make sure you do housekeeping on your list occasionally. Your autoresponder company will have tools available to do this. Clean up the list and remove anyone you feel is not needed. Do not worry too much about losing people by cleaning up your list. You will soon discover the buyers and the freebie seekers.
Your reputation depends on having a business that is run properly and honestly.
Let's now look at the 3 things you must not do when emailing your opt-in list.
1) Not all your emails will reach their destination. Some are going to bounce and will be flagged as undelivered. There are many reasons why they could bounce. Perhaps the email address is no longer in use or even the email address did not have the correct spelling,
2) Ensure that you have a link in your mail that allows someone to unsubscribe from your mailings. When they do unsubscribe then don't go adding them again. Not only will you annoy them, but you will be known as a spammer. If you are seen as a spammer then you will be in trouble with your own internet service provider and many others also. You risk becoming blacklisted and you will lose potential subscribers as well as your business.
3) Do not post anything inflammatory or porn related material. Stick to posting content that is relevant to your niche. Don't annoy your subscribers as they will soon decide to unsubscribe if they feel you are not providing what they signed up for in the first place.
These tips should help you to have a good relationship with your list of subscribers. Ensure you only send relevant material to your list, avoid spamming and continue to take your business forward.
