3 Simple Steps to Figure Out Any Guitar Song Using Barre Chords
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

It's pretty simple to figure out any song on the guitar by using barre chords as a start. Firstly, using barre chords will allow you to quickly figure out which chords are used in the song. Then you can take a few steps to figure out the song more precisely. Just follow these steps.

1) Make Sure The Guitar Is In Perfect Tune- Trying to figure out a song with a guitar that isn't in perfect tune is a hopeless task. You need to make sure the bass strings are especially in tune.

2) Play the Beginning Few Seconds On A Player- Whether it's on your computer, iPod, or whatever...set up the song and play the first few seconds.

3) Use Barre Chords To Figure Out the Chord Changes That Are Being Played- Really focus in on the bass notes and see if the barre chords match up. As soon as you figure out the bass note that matches, now go through the different types of chords. Is it a major chord? A minor? Major 7th?

4) Slowly Work Your Way Through The Song and Recognize the Chord Names- After you have gone through the whole song, you can now go back through it and ask yourself a few questions.

  • Are the chords that you figured out played with Barre Chords? Or are they open chords?
  • Are there different variations in the chords that are being played? Or are they in the first position.
  • If you can't repeat the song exactly like it sounds, then are there similar fingerings that you can try that play the same notes but are played on different strings?
