It is now starting to become more accepted that when you're prenatal omega 3 should be in your diet. There are many sources omega 3 but the particular ones you need to be taking when you're pregnant are the DHA and EPA fats that are found in oily fish. Of course the problem when you are prenatal is that these kind of fish can often have harmful contaminants in them which can be dangerous to the baby's health; however if you take a supplement that has been molecularly distilled then you will be getting these essential fats but without contaminants.

If the mother is not getting plenty of DHA in their diet than the baby will have to take it from the mother's brain; this is what is known as brain shrinkage and this can leave the mother feeling in what can only be described as a "zombie" like state. By maintaining good levels of DHA fats in the diet not only can the mother avoid feeling like this, but also reduces the chances of preterm labor and also postpartum depression.
To be quite frank, maintaining good levels of EPA and DHA is not just something that should be done in pregnancy it is something that you should always do. And as for your child, If you have good levels of DHA when you are breast-feeding then it will be passed on to your child as well: and it is well known that children whose mothers have taken DHA during pregnancy and while breast-feeding have children with higher verbal IQ's and also less likely to have ADHD.
