Today's topic is inflammation in specific areas of the rectum, which is commonly called hemorrhoids or piles. 40% of adults will suffer from this condition at least once in their life, so we should all learn what causes it and how to steer clear of it.
You may have experienced hemorrhoids if you have suffered with itching in the anus, pain while constipated, or if you have wiped and found blood on the paper. In some cases the condition is annoying but it can bring great pain and even embarrassment in some situations.
Those who suffer from severe hemorrhoid conditions will have lump-like hemorrhoids that fall out of the anus. These can be quite painful. Unfortunately, most people do things everyday that could contribute to and cause this condition. Let's take a look at what three of those big mistakes are so you can avoid getting hemorrhoids, or even get rid of them faster if you are already suffering with the condition.
Mistake #1: Consuming a diet rich in processed foods.
It is common for people to eat more processed foods than fresh fruits and vegetables today, but this is one of the fastest ways to get hemorrhoids. The problem with processed foods is they contain little to no fiber and create very hard stools that are difficult to pass through. Processed foods are also harder for the body to process and break down, which can also contribute to the condition. Drinking a lot of water and foods rich in fiber is the best way to avoid developing hemorrhoids. The fiber will absorb the water and soften the stool so it passes easily.
Mistake #2: Not getting enough exercise.
The pressure on your bottom when sitting for hours on end is immense, especially if you are constipated or pregnant. Getting up every hour or so to walk around or exercise for just a few minutes can relieve the pressure and make a huge difference. Getting in some exercise is healthy for other areas of life as well.
Mistake #3: Consuming processed supplements with artificial ingredients.
Processed supplements or creams can be just as harmful to the body as processed foods. Even if you are taking a fiber supplement, you may be digesting artificial ingredients that don't' help protect your body from hemorrhoids, but can help contribute to their development.
Besides being ineffective, artificial creams and supplements could actually make hemorrhoids worse over time!
Are you guilty of any of these mistakes? Don't feel guilty if you are, but definitely make some changes so that you aren't increasing your chances of being in that 40% of adults that will suffer from hemorrhoids.
