3 Innovative Ways to Use Your Treadmill For Weight Loss

Running is great exercise. An easy 30 to 40 minute run 5 days a week is guaranteed to keep you fit, healthy and make you lose weight. The problem however is that we so often get sidetracked and before you know it a week or two has passed without running a single mile. Treadmill training is great because it cuts out a lot the typical "self excuses" like I cant make it to the gym or its too cold or wet outside.

Being diligent with your treadmill training is something that does not always come that easy either. Yes its true that it eliminates a lot of the excuses, but there is still the issue of discipline. Let me offer 3 ideas to help you train more often and more diligently.

1. No TV
One selling point for treadmills is the idea that you can exercise while watching TV. Although the idea is great, its often a negative distraction. A very effective way to work out is to substitute your TV for music. Load up your favorite album on your iPOD and get in the zone.

2. Change the scenery
With the benefit of indoor exercise it can become very stale and boring. At least in the gym there is activity with new people, new faces and a constant buzz. Training home alone has its downsides so why not change up where you exercise. Why not wheel your treadmill outside and enjoy a change in scenery to keep it fresh and interesting.

3. Workout Programs
The latest treadmills come with some pretty amazing workout programs and if yours has a built in TV you can hook it up to the internet and do all sorts of amazing things. You can run against people from all over the world, you can run in cities or locations across the globe and you can even join online communities. It's a great way to track your progress and measure yourself - keeping your motivation up and the excitement factor high.
