20 Tips For Team Motivation in the Workplace

1. A good manager uses the word 'I' the least.
2. One of the best ways to motivate people in the workplace is to arrange team building events. Team building activities are great for enhancing and developing social communication and leadership skills.
3. Start each task with a positive team statement like 'we can do this' or 'we can reach this target'.
4. Believe in new ideas.
5. Treat others as you would want to be treated.
6. Be respectful of team ideas and suggestions.
7. If you get stuck, don't be afraid to ask someone else in the team for help.
8. Two heads are better than one, three heads are better than two, and so on. Team work is hugely possible if you talk to each other. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and the goals will be reached more efficiently if the team is given the opportunity to work these out.
9. Inspire.
10. Incentive schemes and bonus's are great for motivating people and team building.
11. Not only do employees need rewards but they also need recognition. Just by setting up a 'weekly meeting/pow-wow' you can create a sense of team spirit.
12. Look at over-hauling the team environment. You'll be surprised what a coat of paint or a few new chairs can do to staff morale.
13. Regular review sessions with individuals and teams to discuss what can be changed and what doesn't.
14. Offer time keeping and organisation tips, it may just be the simple matter of a 'tidy desk policy' that improves team efficiency.
15. Regular group training can improve efficiency and staff morale.
16. Recognition is a huge motivator. People need to know that what they are doing is meaningful in some way.
17. Don't forget the fun. People have personalities and not allowing them to express themselves (within reason) because they are on the phone all day talking to individuals is not good for team interaction.
18. Happy people = efficient team.
19. Let people be creative.
20. Make sure criticism is constructive. Follow a negative with a positive or a way around the negative.
