$60 Or Less - My Cheap Tour of New York City

If you are in New York City as a tourist or because you've just moved in, you need to explore the town and see what's in it for you. Seeing the entirety of New York City and tasting its vibrancy does not require you to spend too much. All you need is a little creativity and you just be the next jetsetter who travels cheap yet wide.

Here are some ways on how you can save money in New York City:

1. Go public. If you need to go to different places distant or just around the corner, it would be best if you will take public transportation or simply, take a hike. If you've just arrived via JFK, then you can take the train and alight on the nearest stop to you hotel or house. You can then walk the rest of the way. If you feel that you will be using the train often, get hold of a Metro card that offers unlimited rides for one week. This way, if you want to take a train tour of New York, then you can go around the city with unlimited rides.

2. Go free. Eating free food in New York City is something that you should not be ashamed of. The best things in life are free, you know. For instance, if you are staying in a hotel, do not be ashamed to eat wholeheartedly during breakfast since most hotels offer these for free. You can eat all the cereal that you want and throw the extra plums in your bag for you to consume during your afternoon snack. Drink coffee in your hotel room as well (often given out as free) instead of purchasing them from Au Bon Pain or Starbucks.

3. Go to street. If you feel that the hotel breakfast is enough to satisfy your craving for the day, go the street if you want to eat more. There are a lot of carts along the street that offer Halal foods. They not only taste great, they cost less too. Eating in the streets is actually a great way to experience the local food of the city that you are in. New York streets are littered with hotdog stands do help yourself to some. You can also check out the local deli if you need more local fixes. Delis are places that serve cold cuts and pasta although this is not true in New York. Delis in New York offer anything from shampoo to bagel and beer. So, if you need anything, go to the deli.

4. Go Broadway. If you want to enjoy Broadway and yet you don't want to spend too much, buy tickets on the day of the show itself at Times Square. You just have to be patient and wait for an hour but I assure you, you'll be spending $100 less for every ticket.

And while you're out on the city, snap pictures of yourself using your camera phone. Upload the pictures and send them out via email or online fax as postcards. If you search online, you will find sites that offer online faxing services for free.

See? All you really need is a little creativity.
